Palomar Energy Center

Palomar Energy Center

Owner: San Diego Gas & Electric
Location: Escondido, CA
Completion Date: 09/15/2004

The Palomar Energy Center is a 550-megawatt power plant, owned and operated by San Diego Gas & Electric Company and was put into commission on April 1, 2006. The power plant produces electricity through a combination of natural gas-fueled and steam driven turbines and has been heralded by top state energy officials for being over 30% more efficient than older power plants in the region.

Cattrac's Construction services revolved around earth moving, mass excavation and grading the site for construction.

Approximately 2 million cubic yards of rock and dirt were removed to lower the Palomar Energy Center by 40 feet, bringing the facility below grade to reduce plant noise and make it more visually appealing to its neighbors.
